Rug Care Instructions

Thank you for choosing a handcrafted rug. Whether your rug is Hand-Knotted, Hand-Tufted, or Leather Hide, proper care will help preserve its beauty, durability, and craftsmanship for years to come.

Regular Cleaning

Vacuum your rug regularly using suction only. Avoid using a beater bar or rotating brush, as these can damage fibers, knots, or leather surfaces. For leather hide rugs, use a soft brush attachment or gently shake the rug outdoors to remove dust and debris.

Shedding

Hand-tufted and hand-knotted wool rugs may shed lightly during the first few months. This is a natural characteristic of premium wool and will gradually reduce with regular vacuuming.

Spill & Stain Care

Clean spills immediately by gently blotting with a clean, dry, white cloth. Never rub or scrub the affected area, as this may spread the stain or damage the fibers. For wool rugs, use a mild wool-safe detergent diluted with cold water after testing it on a hidden area. For leather hide rugs, use only a leather-safe cleaner or a lightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking the rug or using excessive moisture.

Protect Your Rug

Rotate your rug every 3–6 months (or every 6–12 months for hand-knotted rugs in lower-traffic areas) to promote even wear and minimize fading. A quality rug pad is highly recommended to prevent slipping, provide cushioning, and extend the life of your rug.

Keep your rug away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive humidity, fireplaces, radiators, and other heat sources, as these can cause fading, drying, or damage to natural materials.

Professional Cleaning

For deep cleaning, always use a professional rug cleaner experienced with handmade rugs. Hand-knotted rugs generally require professional cleaning every 2–5 years, while hand-tufted rugs may benefit from cleaning every 12–24 months depending on use. Leather hide rugs should be cleaned only with products and methods specifically designed for natural leather.

Storage

Before storing, ensure the rug is clean and completely dry. Roll the rug with the pile facing inward—never fold it. Wrap it in breathable cotton or muslin fabric and store it in a cool, dry place away from moisture, direct sunlight, and pests. Avoid plastic wrapping, as it can trap moisture.

• Natural variations in color, texture, weave, and size are part of the beauty of handcrafted rugs and make every piece unique.
• New wool rugs may have a mild natural scent and light shedding, both of which diminish with normal use and ventilation.
• Furniture may leave temporary indentations; these usually recover over time. Using furniture pads helps distribute weight evenly.
• With proper care, your handcrafted rug will remain a beautiful and lasting addition to your home for many years.
